Listener.log problem – big file

16 May

Listener.log file on Oracle database will have problems when it reaches 4GB in size. All instances which that listener administrate will stop working, and you below error message:

  • DBGRL Error: OSD-00001: additional error information. O/S-Error: (OS 32) The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
  • TNS-12518: TNS:listener could not hand off client connection
  • ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
  • TNS-12541: TNS:no listener

Check the size of the listener.log. One solution is to rename the file and Oracle will automatically create a new listener.log:

  1. lsnrctl set log_status off
  2. rename listener.log listener.old
  3. lsnrctl set log_status on
